About Gantt Chart Maker

Gantt Chart Maker draws your project plan as a timeline: one bar per task, placed on the calendar from its start date to its finish. Start from a template or paste your task list from a spreadsheet, link the tasks that depend on each other, and the dates move together when something slips. When the plan is ready, download it as a PDF or print it for the team, the client or your supervisor.

At a Glance

Gantt Chart Maker draws a project plan as a timeline of task bars, starting from a template or a list pasted from Excel, with linked tasks that move together, phases, milestones and the critical path, then downloads a PDF or prints it.

How to Make a Gantt Chart

  1. Start from a template. Pick the closest one below, a blank chart, or paste your tasks from Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. List the tasks. Name, start date and number of days. Give tasks a phase to group them under a summary bar, and use 0 days for milestones.
  3. Link the tasks. In “Starts after”, choose what must finish first. With Auto-schedule on, moving one task moves everything after it.
  4. Adjust on the timeline. Drag bars, drag the right end to change the length, fill in % done, and switch on the critical path.
  5. Download or print. A PDF or printout on landscape US Letter or A4, split across pages when the plan is long, or a PNG for slides and email.

Pasting From Excel or Google Sheets

Select the columns in your spreadsheet and paste them into the paste box under the task list. The first three columns are needed; the rest are optional.

Task Start End or days Phase Owner % done
Kickoff 2026-11-09 1 Planning Sam 100%
Requirements 11/10/2026 11/14/2026 Planning Alex 50%
Wireframes Nov 17 2w Design Priya

The third column can be an end date (counted inclusively) or a length such as 5, 5d or 2w. Links between tasks are set afterwards with “Starts after”.

Reading a Gantt Chart

On the chartWhat it means
BarA task, from its start date to its finish. The darker part is the share already done.
Dark bracketA phase, spanning its first to its last task, with the phase's overall % done.
DiamondA milestone: a date that matters, with no length.
ArrowA link: the task at the arrow's end starts after the one it comes from finishes.
Red outlineOn the critical path: a delay here delays the finish date.
Red dashed lineToday, so you can see at a glance what should already be done.

Tips for a Plan People Will Follow

  • Keep tasks between a day and two weeks. Anything longer is hard to track; split it into steps people can finish.
  • Put the deadlines in as milestones. Approvals, deliveries and launch dates show up as diamonds, so nobody misses them.
  • Link only real dependencies. If two tasks can happen at the same time, leave them unlinked so the critical path stays honest.
  • Leave a buffer before the finish. Add a few days of slack before the final milestone instead of padding every task.
  • Update % done each week. Compare the bars with the today line: anything to the left of it that is not filled in is late.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Gantt chart maker free?

Yes. Building, editing, saving, downloading a PDF or PNG and printing are free with no sign-up and no limit. Free files carry a light MiniWebtool.com watermark; Pro removes it and adds the SVG and Excel CSV downloads.

How do I make a Gantt chart?

List the tasks with a start date and a length in days, group them into phases, and link each task to the one that must finish before it. The chart draws each task as a bar on a calendar, so you can see what happens when and which tasks overlap. Then download it as a PDF or print it.

Can I import tasks from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy the columns Task, Start and End (or a number of days) from the spreadsheet, optionally followed by Phase, Owner and % done, and paste them into Paste tasks from Excel or Google Sheets. A header row is skipped and dates like 2026-11-09, 11/9/2026 and Nov 9 all work.

What does Auto-schedule do?

When a task starts after another task, Auto-schedule starts it the day the earlier task finishes, plus any gap you set by dragging it. Move or lengthen the earlier task and every task after it moves too. Turn it off to place every bar by hand.

What is the critical path?

The critical path is the chain of linked tasks that decides the finish date: if any of them takes a day longer, the whole project finishes a day later. Tick Critical path and those tasks are outlined in red. Tasks off the path have slack and can slip a little without moving the finish date.

How do I add a milestone?

Click Add milestone, or set any task to 0 days. A milestone is drawn as a diamond on its date and is used for key moments such as an approval, a launch or a deadline.

Can durations skip weekends?

Yes. Tick Weekdays only and the number of days counts Monday to Friday, so a 5-day task that starts on a Wednesday finishes on the next Tuesday. Weekends are shaded on the day view either way.

Will a long project fit on the printed page?

Yes. The PDF and printout scale the whole timeline to the width of a landscape page and split the tasks across as many pages as needed, each with the date header, so nothing is cut off at the edge.

Is my project saved or uploaded?

The chart is saved in this browser on this device, so it is there when you come back, and it is never uploaded. To move it to another computer, download the CSV with Pro and paste it there, or rebuild it from your spreadsheet with the paste box.
