About Wilks & DOTS Calculator
The Wilks & DOTS Calculator turns a powerlifting total into a single score that can be compared fairly between lifters of different bodyweights. What is the Wilks Coefficient?
The Wilks coefficient, created by Robert Wilks, is a bodyweight- and sex-based multiplier applied to your total (in kilograms). Lighter lifters lift less absolute weight but receive a larger coefficient, so the resulting Wilks score lets a 60 kg lifter and a 120 kg lifter be compared on the same scale. For years it was the default "best lifter" metric in most federations.
What is DOTS?
DOTS is a more recent scoring system that follows the same idea โ total multiplied by a bodyweight coefficient โ but uses an updated fourth-order polynomial fitted to modern competition data. Many federations switched from Wilks to DOTS because it is considered slightly fairer at the extreme light and heavy ends of the bodyweight range. A higher DOTS score always means a stronger performance for your bodyweight.
Wilks & DOTS Formulas
Each score multiplies your total in kilograms by a coefficient built from a polynomial of your bodyweight \( x \) in kilograms.
The coefficient sets \( a \ldots f \) differ by sex and by scoring system. Wilks-2 (2020) uses the same shape as Wilks but with revised coefficients and a numerator of 600, so its numbers run noticeably higher than classic Wilks.
DOTS Strength Level Standards
DOTS scores map to broad strength levels. These bands are a practical guide for drug-tested lifters, not official cut-offs.

Comparing Totals Across Bodyweights
Because a score equals your total (kg) multiplied by the coefficient for your bodyweight, you can invert it: total needed = your score รท the coefficient at a new bodyweight. The equivalence curve in the results does exactly this, plotting the total required across a range of bodyweights to hold your DOTS score constant. It is the clearest way to answer questions like "how much would I need to total if I moved up a weight class?"
Wilks vs DOTS vs IPF Points
Wilks is the classic metric and still widely quoted. Wilks-2 is its 2020 update. DOTS is favoured by many federations today for its handling of light and heavy lifters. A fourth common system, IPF GL Points, is used specifically at IPF events and is calibrated separately by equipment and event. All of them share the same goal: comparing strength relative to bodyweight on one number.

Do I enter my total in kilograms or pounds?
You can enter either. The Wilks and DOTS formulas are defined for kilograms, so if you choose pounds the calculator converts your bodyweight and total to kilograms before scoring, then displays your results. The final Wilks and DOTS points are the same regardless of the unit you type in.
How is a total needed at another bodyweight worked out?
Because a score equals your total in kilograms multiplied by the coefficient for your bodyweight, the tool inverts that relationship: total needed = your DOTS score divided by the coefficient at the new bodyweight. The equivalence curve plots this for a whole range of bodyweights so you can see how the required total scales.
