About Remove Text from Image

Free erase or AI rebuild: which one should you use?

Both remove the same text. The free erase fills the gap from the colours around it, right in your browser. The AI rebuild redraws what was hidden behind the letters, so patterns, edges and objects come back.

Free erase · unlimited, in your browser

  • Clean on plain colour, gradients, sky, walls and smooth fabric
  • Good for small captions, dates, prices and stickers
  • Your picture never leaves your device
  • Big letters over patterns, wood, foliage or people come out smudged

AI rebuild · 50 credits

  • Redraws checks, stripes, wood grain, cushions and siding behind the text
  • Continues edges and objects the letters covered
  • Best for big headlines and text across busy photos
  • Text on plain areas is still erased for free first, so buttons and banners keep their shape

Big letters cross the sofa, the coffee table and the rug. The free erase leaves blurry patches there; the AI rebuild puts back the cushions, the table edge and the rug's weave.

Remove Text from Image takes words off a picture and fills in what was behind them, at the picture's own resolution. Upload a photo, a screenshot, a poster or a product shot and AI reads every piece of text in it, numbers each one and marks its letters. Untick anything that should stay, then erase the rest for free right in your browser, or let AI rebuild the background when the text sits over a busy photo. Only the selected text changes: the rest of the picture keeps its original pixels.

Tips for a clean result

  • Keep what you need. Click a number to untick text that should stay, such as a brand name or a price.
  • Cover the whole letter. Shadows, outlines and glows are part of the text; paint over any that remain.
  • Work in steps. Remove the big text first, then tick or paint the small print and run it again on the result.
  • Start from the best copy you have. A picture saved from a chat app is compressed, and the blocks show around the removed text.
  • Download PNG if you'll add new text in an editor afterwards: it keeps every pixel.

Text or watermark?

This tool reads the text that is part of the picture itself: on a poster, a label, a sign or a screen. A watermark, logo, signature or date stamp added on top of a photo is found by the Watermark Remover, which also recognises the star Gemini adds to its pictures.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove text from an image?

Upload the picture and press Find the text. Every piece of text is numbered and ticked; click a number to keep that text. Then press Erase for free for text on plain backgrounds, or Rebuild with AI for text over busy photos, and download the result as PNG or JPG.

Is it free?

Finding the text costs 1 credit, which your 3 free daily AI credits cover. Erasing it for free runs in your browser and costs nothing, as often as you like. The AI rebuild creates new image content with a commercial image model, so it costs 50 credits and needs a plan or a credit pack; you're only charged if you get an image.

Can I remove only some of the text?

Yes. Every text block found is listed with a number and drawn as a numbered box on your picture. Click a number to keep that text, or use Select none and tick only what should go. The brush adds or takes away anything by hand.

Should I use the free erase or the AI rebuild?

The tool tells you which suits your picture. The free erase is excellent for text on plain colours, gradients, walls, fabric and screenshots, which covers most posters, labels, memes and captions. Over a busy photo, a product or a face it can only smear the surroundings in; the AI rebuild draws what was actually behind the letters.

What kind of text can it remove?

Headlines and body text on posters, flyers and templates, captions and meme text, names and messages in screenshots, labels and small print on product photos, text on signs, subtitles burned into a video frame, and dates or notes written on photos. Watermarks and logos added on top of a photo are better handled by our Watermark Remover.

Will the background look right where the text was?

On plain colours and gradients the gap fills in invisibly. On patterned or photographic backgrounds the AI rebuild redraws the pattern or the objects behind the letters. Zoom in with the slider before you download; for anything left behind, paint over it and run it again.

Will my picture lose quality?

No. Your picture stays at its own size, up to 4096 pixels on the long side, and only the selected text changes. Every other pixel is exactly as it was, and you can download the result as a lossless PNG.

Can I hide names or messages in a screenshot?

Yes: tick only the names, phone numbers or messages you want gone and erase them free. The text is removed from the picture itself, not covered with a box, so nothing underneath can be recovered from your downloaded copy.

Can I use it to remove a stock photo watermark?

No. Stock photo watermarks protect photos that are sold under license, and the tool refuses pictures that carry them; you aren't charged. Use it on your own pictures, or on pictures you have the right to edit.

Is my picture saved?

No. The free erase runs entirely on your device. To find the text, a smaller copy of the picture is sent to an AI model, and for the AI rebuild only the area around the selected text; neither is stored or shared. The finished picture exists only in your browser until you download it.
