About AI Interior Design

The AI Interior Design tool shows what your room could look like before you spend anything on it. Upload one photo and for 1 credit you get design ideas for that room: what already works, what's holding it back and the fix, three styles that suit its light and architecture, a color palette with hex codes for each, the key pieces to look for with store searches, quick low-cost wins and layout tips. Then pick a style and see your own room redesigned by AI, with the walls, windows and camera angle kept, next to the original on a slider.

How to take the photo

  1. Stand in a corner or doorway and hold the phone upright at chest height, level, not tilted up or down.
  2. Turn the lights on and open the curtains; don't shoot straight into a bright window.
  3. Get as much of the room in as you can, including the floor and the corners.
  4. Tidy what you can: the AI redesigns clutter away, but it reads the room better without it.

Rules of thumb designers use

RuleThe number
Color balance (60-30-10)60% main color (walls, big surfaces), 30% secondary (furniture, textiles), 10% accent (cushions, art)
WalkwaysAbout 36 in (90 cm) for main paths, 18 in (45 cm) at minimum between furniture
Coffee table16 to 18 in (40 to 45 cm) from the sofa, about two thirds of the sofa's length
Rug sizeLarge enough for at least the front legs of all seating to sit on it
Hanging artThe center of the picture about 57 to 60 in (145 to 150 cm) from the floor
CurtainsHung high and wide: rod near the ceiling, extending past the window frame
Light colorWarm white (2700 to 3000 K) for living rooms and bedrooms

Where to spend first

  1. Paint or wall color: the biggest change for the least money (skip it if you rent).
  2. Lighting: add lamps at different heights so the room isn't lit only from the ceiling.
  3. A rug that is big enough: it pulls the furniture together.
  4. Textiles: curtains, cushions and a throw in the palette.
  5. One key piece of furniture, such as the sofa or the bed, when the budget allows.

Renter-friendly ideas

  • Lean large art on a sideboard or ledge instead of hanging it.
  • Use plug-in wall lights and floor lamps instead of new fixtures.
  • Cover a dated floor with a large rug and a tired sofa with a slipcover.
  • Bring in plants, mirrors and freestanding shelves you can take with you.

Frequently asked questions

How can I redesign my room with AI?

Take a wide photo of the room from a corner or doorway and upload it. For 1 credit you get design ideas for that room, then pick a style and the AI shows the same room redesigned, with the walls, windows and camera angle kept, so you can compare it with the original on a slider.

Is it free?

The room analysis, the three style ideas with color palettes, the shopping list and the quick wins cost 1 credit, which your 3 free daily AI credits cover. Each redesigned image costs 50 credits and needs a plan or a credit pack. You're only charged if you get an image.

What interior design style suits my room?

It depends on the room's light, size and architecture as much as on taste. Small or dark rooms suit light Scandinavian or Japandi schemes; rooms with period details suit traditional or Art Deco; bright, open spaces carry mid-century, coastal or contemporary looks. The tool picks three for your room and explains why.

Will it keep my room's layout?

The AI is told to keep the room's shape, windows, doors, radiators, built-ins, floor and camera angle exactly as they are, and change only furniture, colors and decor. The analysis lists the fixed features it found, and they are passed on to the redesign. Choose Keep my furniture to restyle around the pieces you already own.

I rent. Can I still use it?

Yes. Tick I rent and both the ideas and the redesign stick to changes you can take with you: textiles, lamps, rugs, plants and freestanding furniture, with no painting, drilling or wall-mounted pieces.

Are the furniture pieces in the image real products?

No. The redesign shows the look, proportions and colors; it doesn't show specific products. Use the shopping list, which says what to look for in each piece, and the store searches next to it, and measure before you buy.

Can I use it for virtual staging of a listing?

You can use it to visualize an empty or dated room. If you publish the image in a property listing, say that it is virtually staged: many listing sites and local rules require it, and buyers expect it.

What photo works best?

A wide, level photo from a corner or doorway at chest height, with the lights on and the curtains open, showing as much of the floor and walls as possible. Avoid shooting straight into a bright window and avoid wide-angle distortion from very close up.

Is my photo saved?

No. Your photo is only used for your design ideas and your redesigned image. It isn't stored or shared, and the result exists only in your browser until you download it.
