About Screenshot Beautifier

The Screenshot Beautifier takes the raw, edge-to-edge rectangle your operating system produces and turns it into an image that looks like it was made on purpose: sitting inside coloured padding, with rounded corners, a soft shadow underneath and, if you want one, a window frame around it. Drop a screenshot in, pick a preset, and download a PNG sized for wherever you are posting it. The file is read and drawn by your own browser, so a screenshot of a dashboard, an invoice or an internal tool never leaves your machine.

What the tool actually changes

Nothing inside your screenshot is touched. Every setting works on the frame around it, and the diagram below names the four layers you are adjusting.

padding corner radius drop shadow gradient canvas
Gradient canvasThe coloured area behind the screenshot. Choose a preset, a solid colour, transparency, or let Auto sample the colours out of your own image.
PaddingThe gutter between the screenshot and the canvas edge, set as a percentage so it scales with the image instead of a fixed pixel count.
Corner radiusHow rounded the screenshot corners are. Matching the radius of the surface you are posting on is what makes the image feel native.
Drop shadowThe blur underneath that lifts the screenshot off the canvas. Four depths, from flat to dramatic.

The Auto background, and why it matters

Most screenshot beautifiers hand you the same dozen gradients that everyone else is using, so the result reads as a template. The Auto swatch instead downsamples your screenshot to a thumbnail, averages its colour, and builds a two-stop gradient from that hue with the saturation and lightness pushed into a band that stays readable behind an image. A blue analytics dashboard gets a deep blue-violet canvas, a warm photo gets an amber one. It takes one click and it is the fastest way to make the padding look chosen rather than default.

Window frames and the perspective tilt

A frame tells the reader instantly what they are looking at. The macOS frame adds the familiar three traffic-light dots, which reads as a desktop app. The Browser frame adds the dots plus an address bar you can type your own domain into, which reads as a web page and quietly puts your URL in the image. Choose None when the screenshot already contains its own chrome.

The Tilt slider applies a horizontal perspective, drawing the framed screenshot column by column so the near edge is taller than the far edge. A small amount (five to fifteen degrees) gives the 3D product-mockup look; past that the text inside the screenshot starts to get hard to read, which is the point at which you should stop.

Export sizes for each platform

Square1080 x 10801:1Instagram feed, avatars, carousels
Portrait1080 x 13504:5The tallest image Instagram will show in full

When a preset is narrower or taller than your screenshot, the screenshot is scaled down to fit inside the padding rather than cropped, so nothing in it is ever cut off.

How to Use the Screenshot Beautifier: step by step

  1. Add your screenshot: drop a PNG or JPG on the upload panel, click it to browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste one straight from the clipboard.
  2. Pick a style preset: one click on Sunset, Ocean, Mint, Grape, Slate or Paper sets the background, padding, radius and shadow together.
  3. Fine-tune: adjust Padding, Corner radius, Shadow, Frame and Tilt. The preview redraws on every change.
  4. Choose an output size: pick the canvas preset for the platform you are posting to, so you are not resizing afterwards.
  5. Export: Download PNG saves the file, Copy image puts it on the clipboard ready to paste into a post.

Practical tips

Privacy

Every step runs in the browser tab through the HTML5 canvas API. Your screenshot is read with a local object URL, drawn, and exported with the browser's own PNG encoder. No image is uploaded, stored or transmitted, and once the page has loaded the tool keeps working with no network at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my screenshot get uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole tool is a canvas script running in your browser tab, so the file you drop in is read locally and drawn locally. Nothing is sent to a server, which means product dashboards, invoices and other confidential screenshots stay on your machine. The tool also keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.

What size should I export for social media?

Use the canvas presets. X posts look best at 1600 by 900 (16:9), Instagram feed posts at 1080 by 1350 (4:5), Instagram and TikTok stories at 1080 by 1920 (9:16), LinkedIn posts at 1200 by 627, and link previews on almost every platform at 1200 by 630 (the Open Graph preset). Auto keeps the screenshot's own proportions and simply adds the padding.

Why does adding padding make a screenshot look better?

A raw screenshot is a rectangle that runs edge to edge, so in a feed it collides with the post background and reads as clutter. Padding gives the image a margin of its own, the rounded corners stop it fighting with the card corners around it, and the shadow lifts it off the background so the eye treats it as one object. The content does not change; only the framing does.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Yes. Choose the Transparent background swatch and the padding area is exported as alpha instead of colour, while the rounded corners, frame and shadow are still drawn. Download PNG then keeps that transparency. This is the option to use when you are dropping the result onto a slide or a page whose own background should show through.

How do I paste a screenshot from the clipboard?

Take a screenshot with a shortcut that copies it to the clipboard, such as Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4 on a Mac, then click anywhere on this page and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). The image is picked up from the paste event and loaded into the preview without ever touching a file on disk.

What does the Auto background option do?

Auto reads your screenshot at a tiny size, averages its colours, and builds a two-stop gradient from that average hue with the saturation and lightness pushed into a range that stays readable behind an image. The result is padding that belongs to the screenshot instead of a generic purple gradient, which is usually what separates a considered post image from a template one.
