How to Split a Video Online
- Wait for the processing engine: Let the FFmpeg splitting engine finish loading before selecting a file.
- Select a video: Drag a video onto the upload area or choose Select Video, then wait for the original preview and duration to appear.
- Set the start point: Move the slider or enter a time in HH:MM:SS,mmm format, then choose Set Start Point.
- Set the end point: Move to a later time and choose Set End Point. If no custom points are set, the full video remains selected.

Understanding the Time Format
Manual times use HH:MM:SS,mmm: hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds. For example, 00:01:23,500 means 1 minute, 23 seconds and 500 milliseconds. The start must be earlier than the end and both points must fall within the source duration. Although you can enter milliseconds, a visible cut ultimately lands on an encoded video frame, so actual precision is limited by the frame rate and source timestamps.
Output Quality and Performance
The selected video is re-encoded to H.264 with a balanced quality setting and packaged as MP4. This improves output compatibility but is not lossless, so repeated processing can gradually reduce quality. Compatible audio is copied without re-encoding. Because WebAssembly processing uses local CPU and memory, long 4K videos and very large files may run slowly or exceed the resources available to a mobile device or browser tab.
Troubleshooting
- The engine does not load: Refresh the page, confirm JavaScript is enabled, and check whether a network filter is blocking the FFmpeg script.
- The file will not open: The container may use an unsupported codec. Converting the source to a standard H.264/AAC MP4 often resolves this.
- Processing stops or the tab closes: Try a shorter or lower-resolution source, close memory-heavy tabs, or switch to a desktop browser.
- The output has no audio: The source may be silent or its audio codec may be incompatible with MP4 stream copying.

No. The tool uses FFmpeg.wasm to read and process the video locally in your browser. The file is not sent to MiniWebtool, although your browser still needs an internet connection to load the page and processing engine.

You can enter times to the millisecond in HH:MM:SS,mmm format, but practical cut accuracy is limited by the video's frame rate, timestamps and codec. For frame-based media, the nearest encoded frame determines the visible boundary.
