How to Split a Video Online

1. Wait for the splitter to load: It takes a few seconds before you can select a file.
2. Select a video: Drag a video onto the upload area or choose Select Video, then wait for the original preview and duration to appear.
3. Set the start point: Move the slider or enter a time in HH:MM:SS,mmm format, then choose Set Start Point.
4. Set the end point: Move to a later time and choose Set End Point. If no custom points are set, the full video remains selected.
5. Split and preview: Choose Split Selected Segment and keep the page open while the browser processes the video. Review the generated segment in the preview player.
6. Download the segment: Choose Download Split Segment to save the MP4, or set new points and run the splitter again to create another clip.

Understanding the Time Format

Manual times use HH:MM:SS,mmm: hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds. For example, 00:01:23,500 means 1 minute, 23 seconds and 500 milliseconds. The start must be earlier than the end and both points must fall within the source duration. Although you can enter milliseconds, a visible cut ultimately lands on a whole video frame, so actual precision is limited by the frame rate and source timestamps.

Output Quality and Performance

Fast mode copies the original picture and sound as they are, so the parts keep the source quality and are ready in seconds; cuts can shift by up to a second or two. Exact mode saves the video again as an MP4 at a balanced quality setting, which is frame-accurate but slower and not lossless. Because processing uses your device's CPU and memory, long 4K videos and very large files may run slowly or exceed the resources available to a mobile device or browser tab.

Troubleshooting

• The splitter does not load: Refresh the page, confirm JavaScript is enabled, and check whether an ad blocker or network filter is blocking the page.
• The file will not open: The file may use a format the browser cannot read. Converting it to a standard MP4 first often resolves this.
• Processing stops or the tab closes: Try a shorter or lower-resolution source, close memory-heavy tabs, or switch to a desktop browser.
• The output has no audio: The source may be silent, or its audio may be in a format that does not carry over into MP4.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The video is read and split locally in your browser. The file is not sent to MiniWebtool, although your browser still needs an internet connection to load the page.

Which video formats can I split?

Common inputs such as MP4, WebM, MOV, M4V, AVI and MKV usually work. In Fast mode MP4, MOV and M4V sources are saved as MP4, WebM stays WebM and MKV stays MKV; other sources, and Exact mode, produce an MP4. Some older or unusual files may not open in a browser; converting them to MP4 first usually fixes that.

Does splitting reduce video quality?

Not in Fast mode, the default: the picture and sound are copied as they are, so quality is identical to the source and even long videos split in seconds. The trade-off is that each cut can shift by up to a second or two from the point you chose. Exact mode cuts on the frame you chose but saves the video again at a balanced quality setting, which is slower and not lossless.

Will the split video keep its audio?

Yes, the tool keeps the audio that falls inside the selected time range. A silent source remains silent, and an unusual audio format may require converting the source to MP4 first.

Why can a large video take a long time or fail?

Browser-based processing loads video data into memory and uses your device's CPU. Long, high-resolution or very large files therefore need more RAM and processing time. Close other memory-heavy tabs, try a shorter source, or use a desktop browser if the process stops.

Can I create several clips from one video?

Yes, in one run. Under Or split the whole video into parts, choose a number of equal parts, a length such as every 30 seconds, or type the times to cut at (you can also play to a moment and press Add current position). Every part gets its own preview and download link, up to 100 parts per run. To pull out one custom stretch instead, set a start and end point and use Split Selected Segment.

How precise are the start and end times?

You can enter times to the millisecond in HH:MM:SS,mmm format, but practical cut accuracy is limited by the video's frame rate and timestamps. A cut always lands on a whole video frame.

How do I cut a video from 2:15 to 3:40?

Choose 00:02:15.000 as the start and 00:03:40.000 as the end, using the slider or the time input, then split the selected segment. The result should be 1 minute 25 seconds long. For cuts that land on exact frames, choose Exact mode; Fast mode is quicker, but cuts can shift by up to a second or two. Preview the segment before downloading to confirm the boundaries.

Why does Exact mode take longer than Fast mode?

Exact mode saves the selected video again so it can cut on the exact frame you chose. That takes more processing than Fast mode, which copies the video as it is and lets each cut shift slightly. The output file size may change in Exact mode, so check that it meets your needs. If a quick cut is more important than frame-level precision, Fast mode may be suitable.

Can I trim a video to meet an upload size limit?

Trimming can reduce the amount of footage in your file, but the result’s size depends on the video’s duration, resolution, frame rate, and encoding. This tool exports the selected segment as an MP4 and does not offer a target file-size setting in the described controls. For example, cutting a 10-minute recording down to 2 minutes removes much of its runtime, but does not guarantee a particular file size. Check the exported file against the upload limit.
