How to Cut or Split an Audio File

1. Choose your file. Click Choose an audio file or drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, WMA or AIFF file onto the page.
2. Pick a mode. Keep one part trims the start and end, Cut out parts removes sections from anywhere, and Split into parts makes several files.
3. Mark the parts. Drag the handles on the waveform, type the times, or play to the right moment and click Use current time. To split, type the number of parts or the length of each part.
4. Listen. Press play with Preview the result ticked: playback jumps over the parts that will be removed.
5. Save. Pick a format under Save as, add a fade in or fade out if you like, and click Cut & save audio or Split into parts.

How do I cut an MP3 file online?

How do I remove a part from the middle of an audio file?

Choose Cut out parts. A red section appears on the waveform; drag its edges, or type the From and To times, until it covers what should go. Click Cut out a part here to add more. Everything that is not red is joined into one file, with a tiny fade at each join so you do not hear a click.

How do I split an audio file into equal parts?

Choose Split into parts, then enter how many equal parts you want, or a length such as every 10 minutes. Lines on the waveform show where each split falls. Click Split into parts to get every part as its own file, and download them one by one or all together as a ZIP. Up to 100 parts can be made at a time.

Does cutting reduce the audio quality?

WAV, FLAC and AIFF stay lossless: the parts you keep are exactly the same sound, at the original bit depth. MP3, M4A, OGG, Opus and WMA are saved again at the original bitrate or higher, which is not audibly different for normal listening. Saving a lossy file such as an MP3 as WAV or FLAC does not bring back detail the MP3 never had.

Which audio formats can I cut?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WMA and AIFF, plus the sound of a video file such as MP4 or MOV. If your browser cannot play a format itself, the tool makes a quick listening copy so you can still hear and see it; the file you save is always made from your original.

How precise is the cut?

Times are shown and can be typed to a hundredth of a second. Zoom in on the waveform to place a cut between two words or two beats, and use the arrow keys to move the playhead 0.1 second at a time.

Can I add a fade in or fade out?

Yes. Tick Fade in or Fade out before saving to add a two-second fade at the start or end of the file. When you split, each part gets its own fade.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 1 GB can be opened. Everything happens in your browser, so a very long file needs a computer with enough free memory; closing other tabs helps.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio is cut inside your browser, on your own device, and never sent to a server.

Is it free?

You can cut 3 audio files a day for free without signing up. Changing the selection and saving the same file again does not count as a new file. Members can cut many more.
