About Pizza Value Calculator
How to Compare Pizza Values
Comparing pizza deals based on price alone can be misleading. A larger pizza may cost more but actually deliver far more food per dollar. Here is how to find the true value:
- Step 1: Enter the diameter (in inches) and price for each pizza you are comparing.
- Step 2: Optionally adjust the number of slices for each pizza.
- Step 3: Compare the price per square inch — the lower number is the better deal.
The Math Behind Pizza Value
Pizza is circular, so its area follows the circle area formula:
Price per sq. inch = Price ÷ Area
Price per slice = Price ÷ Number of Slices
Because area scales with the square of the diameter, doubling the diameter gives you four times the pizza — not just double. This is why larger pizzas are almost always a better deal.
Common Pizza Sizes
Tips for Getting the Best Pizza Deal
- Size up: Going from a 12" to a 16" pizza gives you 78% more pizza. If the price difference is less than 78%, the larger pizza is the better value.
- Compare chains: Different pizza chains use different sizes for "medium" or "large." Always check the actual diameter in inches.
- Watch for deals: Two-for-one deals on smaller pizzas sometimes beat one large pizza. Use this calculator to check.
- Consider toppings: Premium toppings add cost but not size. For pure value, compare base pizzas or similar topping combinations.
- Slice count varies: A 14" pizza with 8 slices gives bigger slices than a 14" with 10 slices — same total area, different portion sizes.
