About AI Text Tone Analyzer

The AI Tone Analyzer shows how your email, message or post will come across before you send it. Paste your text and a free check runs as you type, flagging the phrases that most often read badly. Then get the full analysis: how the reader will likely feel, the exact phrases that could be misread with a better way to say each, and a rewrite in the tone you want.

What it checks

  • Hedging. "Just", "I was wondering if maybe", "sort of": words that make a clear request sound unsure.
  • Over-apologizing. "Sorry to bother you" undercuts what follows.
  • Passive-aggressive phrases. "Per my last email", "as I mentioned", "friendly reminder".
  • Harsh or demanding wording. "ASAP", "you need to", "obviously", words in capitals and strings of exclamation marks.
  • Blame and absolutes. "You didn't", "you always", "you never".
  • Formality. A meter from very casual to very formal, calculated from contractions, word choice and sentence length.

What you get from the AI

  • How it comes across, with the words that create each impression quoted from your text.
  • Phrases that could be misread, each with a fix you can apply in one click.
  • A rewrite in the tone you choose, with a check that your names, numbers and dates are kept.

How to check the tone of a message

  1. Paste your message and read the instant check.
  2. Choose what kind of text it is and how you want it to sound.
  3. Click Analyze my tone, apply the fixes you like or copy the rewrite.

Tips for the right tone

  • Lead with the point. Readers judge tone from the first line.
  • Ask plainly. A direct, polite request sounds more confident than a hedged one.
  • Describe the problem, not the person. "The numbers haven't arrived" instead of "You didn't send the numbers".
  • Give a reason with a deadline. "By Friday, so I can finish the board deck" beats "ASAP".

Frequently asked questions

How do I check the tone of my email?

Paste it into the box. A free tone check runs as you type and highlights hedging, over-apologizing, stock passive-aggressive phrases, shouting and blame. For the full analysis, choose what kind of text it is and how you'd like it to sound, and you get how it will likely come across, the phrases that could be misread with a fix for each, and a rewrite in that tone.

Does my email sound passive-aggressive?

Phrases like "per my last email", "as I mentioned before", "friendly reminder" and "thanks in advance" are widely read as passive-aggressive, and the instant check flags them. The full analysis also points out sentences that could read that way in context and suggests a direct, friendly alternative.

How do I make an email sound more confident?

Cut the hedges ("just", "I was wondering if maybe", "sort of"), stop apologizing for asking, and state what you want and why. Choose More confident and the rewrite does exactly that while keeping your facts, and the before-and-after check shows how many warnings are gone.

Will the rewrite change what I said?

It changes how you say it, not what you say. Code compares the rewrite with your message and lists any names, numbers or dates that were dropped or added, so you can check them before you send it.

Where do the tone scores come from?

The formality meter and the instant check are calculated by code from your wording, and each shows its reasons. The AI describes how the text comes across, and every tone it names is backed by a quote from your text that code checks is really there. There are no made-up percentages.

Is it free?

Yes. The instant tone check, the formality meter and the examples on this page are always free. Every day you also get free AI runs, and each run gives the full analysis and a rewrite. Rewriting in another tone uses one run.
