Tips for better stories

• Give it a situation, not just a subject. "A baker finds one loaf missing every morning" beats "a mystery about bread".
• Name your characters and give them one trait. "Mira, 70, stubborn and curious" gives the story a voice.
• Pick the audience. It changes vocabulary, sentence length and how dark the story can go.
• Try the endings. The alternative endings often suggest a direction for the next chapter.
