Picture Hanging Formula
You cannot nail through the center of a picture โ the hook has to go where the hardware rests, which is somewhere below the top edge. The calculator bridges that gap in two short steps:

How to Measure the Hardware Drop
The hardware drop is the one measurement people forget, and it is why so many pictures end up hanging too high. It is the distance the hanging point sits below the top of the frame once the wire is bearing weight.
- Lay the picture face down on a table.
- Hook a finger under the wire (or use the D-ring slot) and pull it straight up toward the top of the frame, as if it were hanging on a nail.
- Measure from the top edge of the frame down to the highest point of the taut wire. That distance is your drop.

How High to Hang Art Above Furniture
Over a sofa, bed, console, or headboard, the art should relate to the furniture rather than float above it. Leave a gap of 4โ8 inches (10โ20 cm) between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame. One Hook or Two?
