About Tithe Calculator

The Tithe Calculator works out how much to give when you tithe — traditionally one tenth (10%) of your income. Enter your pay and the tool shows your tithe on gross income and on net income side by side, breaks the amount down per paycheck, lets you add an optional freewill offering, and walks you through every step. It supports custom percentages and 15 currencies.

What is a Tithe?

A tithe is a portion of your income set aside to support your church or religious community. The word literally means "a tenth," which is why the traditional tithe is 10% of income. Tithing appears across many faith traditions and is usually given regularly — weekly, per paycheck, monthly, or annually. Many people also add a separate offering, which is freely given on top of the basic tithe.

Tithe Formula

The core calculation is simple: multiply your income by your tithe rate. For the traditional tithe, the rate is 10% (0.10).

Tithe Amount
$$\text{Tithe} = \text{Income} \times \frac{\text{Tithe Rate}}{100}$$
Per Paycheck
$$\text{Per Paycheck} = \frac{\text{Annual Tithe}}{\text{Pay Periods per Year}}$$

Pay periods per year are 12 for monthly, 24 for semi-monthly, 26 for bi-weekly, and 52 for weekly. This calculator does the annualizing and the per-paycheck split for you.

Should You Tithe on Gross or Net Income?

This is the most common — and most personal — tithing question. There is no single correct answer, so this calculator shows you both:

  • Tithing on gross income means giving 10% of your full pay before taxes and deductions. It results in a larger gift and is often described as giving on your "first fruits" or total increase.
  • Tithing on net income means giving 10% of your take-home pay after taxes. Some prefer this because taxes are money they never personally receive.

Enter your taxes and deductions and the calculator will display the exact tithe for each approach and the dollar difference between them, so you can make an informed decision based on your own convictions.

Tithe vs Offering

A tithe is the set, regular portion — traditionally a fixed 10%. An offering is any additional giving beyond the tithe, given freely and in any amount. Use the optional offering field to model your total giving when you give above and beyond the basic tithe.

What to Consider When Tithing

📖 Your Convictions

The gross-vs-net choice is personal. Decide based on your beliefs and what you can give consistently.

📅 Consistency

Giving the same share each paycheck makes tithing a sustainable habit rather than a year-end scramble.

🎁 Offerings

Many givers add a freewill offering above the tithe for special needs, missions, or causes they care about.

🧾 Tax Deductibility

In many countries, gifts to registered charities and houses of worship may be tax-deductible. Keep records.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your income: Type your income and choose the pay period it covers (per year, per month, bi-weekly, and so on).
  2. Choose gross or net: Select whether to tithe on gross or net income, and enter your taxes and deductions so the comparison is accurate.
  3. Set your tithe rate: Keep the traditional 10% or enter your own percentage, and add an optional offering.
  4. Review your giving: See your tithe, the gross-vs-net comparison, a per-paycheck breakdown table, a giving donut, and a full step-by-step calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a tithe?

A tithe is a portion of your income, traditionally one tenth (10%), given to support your church or religious community. The word tithe literally means a tenth. Many people also give additional freewill offerings on top of their tithe.

How do you calculate a 10% tithe?

Multiply your income by 0.10. For example, a 10% tithe on 50,000 of income is 50,000 × 0.10 = 5,000. To use a different percentage, divide your chosen rate by 100 and multiply it by your income.

Should I tithe on gross or net income?

This is a personal and often theological decision. Tithing on gross income means giving on your full pay before taxes and deductions, which results in a larger gift. Tithing on net income means giving on your take-home pay after taxes. Both are widely practiced; this calculator shows you the amount and the difference for each so you can decide.

Is a tithe always exactly 10%?

Ten percent is the traditional figure, but many people give a different amount. Some give less while building the habit, others give more, and some add a separate freewill offering above the basic tithe. This calculator lets you set any percentage.

How much should I tithe per paycheck?

Take your annual tithe and divide it by the number of pay periods in a year: 12 for monthly, 24 for semi-monthly, 26 for bi-weekly, or 52 for weekly. The calculator shows all of these amounts automatically in the per-paycheck breakdown table.

What is the difference between a tithe and an offering?

A tithe is the set portion of income, traditionally 10%, given regularly. An offering is any additional giving above the tithe, given freely and in any amount. This calculator can include an optional offering percentage on top of your tithe.
