About Tarot Card Reading

This Tarot Card Reading tool draws from a complete 78-card deck — all 22 Major Arcana and all 56 Minor Arcana — and gives you both upright and reversed meanings for every card. Choose a one-card daily draw for a single clear focus, or a three-card spread in one of three layouts. Unlike most free tarot sites, your cards are not produced by a random number generator: they are dealt by a shuffle seeded from your own question and date, so a reading is stable, repeatable, and permanently shareable.

At a Glance

Tarot Card Reading deals one or three cards from the full 78-card deck for your question, explains each card, and can give an AI reading of your spread.

What Makes This Tarot Reading Different

Almost every online tarot tool calls a random number generator when you click. That has two consequences you have probably run into: refreshing the page destroys your reading forever, and the link you send a friend shows them completely different cards. It also quietly encourages the one habit traditional tarot practice warns against — clicking "shuffle again" until you get an answer you like.

🔮 Your question deals your cards. The shuffle here is a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by a SHA-256 keystream. The seed for that keystream is built from your question, your spread, your reversal setting, and your reading date:

seed = SHA-256( question ‖ spread ‖ layout ‖ reversals ‖ date )

Because nothing random is involved, the same inputs always deal the same cards — on any device, for any person, today or in ten years. Your reading gets a permanent link and a short seed fingerprint, so two people can confirm they are looking at the identical deal. To draw genuinely new cards, change something real: your question, your spread, or your date.

One Card or Three Cards?

A one-card draw is the classic daily practice. It gives you a single image to carry through the day and is best for open questions such as "what should I pay attention to today?" A three-card spread gives a card sequence that tells a small story, which is better for a specific situation you are trying to understand or decide on.

The Three Card Spread Layouts

The layout you choose changes what each position is asking, and it is part of the shuffle seed — so the same question drawn in a different layout deals different cards.

LayoutPositionsBest for
Past · Present · FutureRoots of the situation → where you stand now → where it is headingUnderstanding how something developed and where it leads
Situation · Action · OutcomeWhat is really going on → the move being asked of you → what it tends towardDeciding what to actually do next
Mind · Body · SpiritYour thinking → the practical layer → what your intuition knowsA general check-in on yourself rather than a situation

Upright and Reversed Tarot Meanings

A card is reversed when it lands upside down in the shuffle. A reversal generally means the card's energy is blocked, delayed, turned inward, or unbalanced rather than flowing freely. Each card in this tool has its own written reversed meaning — reversals are not simply "the opposite."

Importantly, a reversed card is not automatically bad news. When a difficult card reverses, the reversal often softens it: a reversed Devil means breaking free of an attachment, a reversed Ten of Swords means the worst is behind you, and a reversed Nine of Swords means fears are losing their grip. If you prefer traditional upright-only readings, set Reversed Cards to Upright only — the same cards are drawn either way, so you can compare.

The Major and Minor Arcana

The deck splits into two halves, and the mix you draw is itself meaningful — which is why this tool reports it in the Reading Signature panel.

  • Major Arcana (22 cards) — The Fool through The World. Large life themes, turning points, and lessons that feel bigger than day-to-day choices. A spread heavy in Majors suggests forces that are not entirely under your control.
  • Minor Arcana (56 cards) — four suits of 14, covering the practical texture of everyday life. An all-Minor spread suggests the answer is in ordinary, workable action rather than fate.

The Four Suits of the Minor Arcana

🔥 Wands · Fire

Passion, drive, creativity, ambition, and work. Wands ask what you want badly enough to act on.

💧 Cups · Water

Emotion, love, relationships, and intuition. Cups ask how you actually feel underneath the story.

⚔ Swords · Air

Thought, truth, conflict, and decisions. Swords cut — they deal in what is real, not what is comfortable.

🪙 Pentacles · Earth

Money, work, health, and the material world. Pentacles ask what is being built and what it rests on.

How to Use This Tarot Card Reading Tool

  1. Ask your question: Type what you want the cards to answer into Your Question. Open-ended questions ("what am I not seeing about this?") read better than yes/no questions. Leave it blank for an open daily draw.
  2. Choose your spread: Pick One Card for a single focus, or Three Cards and then the layout — Past/Present/Future, Situation/Action/Outcome, or Mind/Body/Spirit.
  3. Set reversals and date: Decide whether reversed cards are included, and confirm the reading date. Both are part of the shuffle.
  4. Draw your cards: Click Draw My Cards. Your cards deal face down and flip over one at a time.
  5. Read the spread: Read each card in its position, then read the Reading Signature panel for the Major/Minor mix, the reversal balance, and the dominant element. Copy the link if you want to keep or share the reading.

Tips for a Better Reading

  • Ask open questions. Tarot answers "what is going on here?" far better than "will he call me?" Swap yes/no questions for "what do I need to understand about this?"
  • Read the position, not just the card. The Tower in Past is an upheaval you already survived. The Tower in Future is a warning. Same card, opposite reading.
  • Read the three cards as one sentence. A spread is a sequence, not three separate horoscopes. Look for the story that connects them.
  • Notice the mix. Three Majors is a very different reading from three Pentacles, regardless of which specific cards turned up.
  • Do not re-draw until something changes. This tool enforces that for you — which is a feature, not a bug.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this tarot card reading work?

The full 78-card deck is shuffled with a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by a SHA-256 keystream. The seed for that keystream is built from your question, the spread you chose, whether reversals are enabled, and the reading date. Because the seed comes from your question rather than from a random number generator, the same question on the same day always deals the same cards, and the link to your reading is permanent.

Why do I get the same cards when I refresh the page?

That is intentional. Traditional tarot practice says you should not re-ask the same question until something has actually changed, and most online tarot tools break that rule by reshuffling on every click. Here your reading is tied to your question and date, so refreshing does not destroy it. To draw a genuinely new spread, change your question, change the spread type, or move the reading date.

What does a reversed tarot card mean?

A reversed card is one that lands upside down in the shuffle. It usually means the card's energy is blocked, delayed, turned inward, or being expressed in an unbalanced way rather than flowing freely. A reversed card is not automatically bad news: reversals of difficult cards, such as The Devil or the Ten of Swords, often mean release and recovery. You can switch reversals off if you prefer upright-only readings.

What is the difference between the Major and Minor Arcana?

The 22 Major Arcana cards, from The Fool to The World, deal with large life themes, turning points, and lessons that feel bigger than everyday choices. The 56 Minor Arcana cards are split into four suits — Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles — and cover the practical, day-to-day texture of life. A spread full of Major Arcana suggests forces beyond your direct control, while an all-Minor spread suggests the answer lies in ordinary action.

Which three card spread should I choose?

Choose Past, Present, Future when you want to understand how a situation developed and where it is heading. Choose Situation, Action, Outcome when you need to decide what to actually do. Choose Mind, Body, Spirit for a general check-in on yourself rather than on an external situation. The layout is part of the shuffle seed, so each layout deals different cards for the same question.

Can I share my tarot reading with someone?

Yes. Every reading has its own permanent link, which you can copy with the Copy Reading Link button. Because the cards are derived from the seed in that link rather than stored on a server, anyone who opens it sees exactly the same cards in the same positions and orientations, today or years from now. Each reading also shows a short seed fingerprint so two people can confirm they are looking at the same deal.

What does the AI reading add?

The card meanings on this page are the same for everyone who draws those cards. The AI reading takes your question and the exact cards in your spread, explains what each one says about your situation, how the cards relate to each other, and ends with one concrete next step and a question to reflect on. It never adds cards you did not draw.

Is this tarot reading free?

Yes. Drawing cards and reading their traditional meanings is free and unlimited. The AI reading of your spread is included free a few times a day; members get more.

Is this tarot reading accurate or a prediction of the future?

Tarot is a tool for reflection and entertainment, not a verified method of predicting the future. There is no scientific evidence that cards can forecast events. The value of a reading is in the prompt it gives you: the images and meanings encourage you to look at your situation from an angle you had not considered. Do not use tarot as a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice.
