About Net Run Rate Calculator
The Net Run Rate Calculator works out a cricket team's Net Run Rate (NRR) — the tie-breaker that decides league positions when teams finish level on points. It adds up every run scored and every over faced across your matches, does the same for runs conceded and overs bowled, and subtracts the two rates. Crucially, it handles the two things people get wrong by hand: cricket over notation (19.3 means 19 overs and 3 balls, not 19.3) and the ICC "all out" rule (a bowled-out side counts as facing its full quota of overs).
What is Net Run Rate?
Net Run Rate measures how efficiently a team scores compared with how efficiently it concedes, across a whole tournament. A high positive NRR means you win convincingly — big margins batting first, or chases finished with overs to spare. A negative NRR means opponents are scoring off you faster than you score off them. Because it is calculated to three decimal places, NRR is a precise, order-of-magnitude tie-breaker used by the IPL, the Cricket World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and virtually every domestic league.
Net Run Rate Formula
Both fractions use aggregate totals summed over every match — never the average of individual match NRRs. A game played over 50 overs therefore carries more weight than one shortened to 20, exactly as it should.
Cricket Over Notation: Why 19.3 ≠ 19.3
An over is six legal balls, so overs are counted in base six, not base ten. The score line 19.3 overs means 19 complete overs plus 3 balls. To use it in the formula you convert the balls to sixths:

The "All Out" Rule
Under the ICC playing conditions, a team that is bowled out before using its full quota of overs is treated, for NRR purposes only, as if it had batted for the entire quota. So a side all out for 120 in 35 overs of a 50-over match is counted as having faced 50 overs, not 35. This deliberately penalises being dismissed cheaply. Tick the All out box next to an innings and the tool substitutes the full quota (20 for T20, 50 for ODI, or your custom value) automatically.

How to Improve Your Net Run Rate
- Batting first: win by the biggest runs margin you can — every extra run scored (or saved in the field) lifts NRR.
- Chasing: reach the target with as many overs to spare as possible; finishing a chase quickly is worth far more than a nervy last-over win.
- Bowl sides out cheaply: dismissing the opposition caps the runs they can score against you and shortens the overs efficiently.
- Avoid narrow, slow wins: they add points but barely move NRR, which can hurt when the table is tight.
