About AI Punctuation Adder

The AI Punctuation Adder turns text without punctuation into text people can read. Paste a transcript, auto-generated YouTube captions, voice typing or quick notes, and it adds periods, commas, question marks, apostrophes, quotation marks and capital letters, and breaks long text into paragraphs. Every word is then checked by code against your original, so what you get back says exactly what you put in, only punctuated.

What you get from every run

  • Full punctuation and capitals. Sentence endings, commas, questions, contractions (dont → don't), quotations and hyphens, plus capitals for sentence starts, the word I and names.
  • Readable paragraphs. A wall of transcript text is split where the topic or speaker changes. If your line breaks matter, choose Keep my line breaks.
  • Your words, guaranteed. The page compares the result with your text word by word and puts back anything the AI changed, added or removed.
  • Every change visible. Added marks and capitals are highlighted, and the stats show how many periods, commas and question marks were added.
  • Transcript clean-up. Optionally remove ums, uhs and words repeated by accident, and nothing else.

How to add punctuation to a transcript

  1. Paste the text, or upload a .txt, .docx, .pdf, .srt or .vtt file. Caption timestamps are removed automatically.
  2. Choose Add paragraph breaks for transcripts, or Keep my line breaks for text that is already laid out.
  3. Tick Remove ums, uhs and repeated words if it is a recording of speech.
  4. Click Add punctuation, check the highlighted marks, then copy or download the result.

Punctuation rules it follows

  • Periods end statements; question marks end direct questions, including questions inside speech ("do you know if Tom is coming?").
  • Commas go after introductory words (So, Well, Okay), between items in a list, before a joining word that links two complete sentences, and around a name someone is addressed by ("Hi, Sarah,").
  • Apostrophes mark contractions (don't, it's, we're) and possession.
  • Exclamation marks are used sparingly, only where the words clearly exclaim.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add punctuation to text automatically?

Paste your text or upload a file, choose whether to add paragraph breaks, and click Add punctuation. The AI adds periods, commas, question marks, apostrophes, quotation marks and capitals, and the page highlights every mark it added so you can check them at a glance.

Will it change my words?

No. The AI is told to add punctuation only, and then the page checks its answer word by word against your original. If the AI changed, added or dropped a word, your original word is put back and the page tells you. Misspellings stay as they are too, because correcting them is a different job.

Can it punctuate a YouTube transcript or auto-generated captions?

Yes, that is what it is built for. Paste the transcript, or upload the caption file (.srt or .vtt): timestamps and cue numbers are removed automatically. With Add paragraph breaks on, a long transcript comes back as readable paragraphs, split where the topic or speaker changes.

Is the AI Punctuation Adder free?

Yes. Free runs cover up to 1,000 words, about seven minutes of speech. The built-in examples show a full result without using a run. For longer transcripts, up to 5,000 words at once, you can use AI credits or a plan.

What does Remove ums, uhs and repeated words do?

It lets the AI drop filler sounds such as um, uh, er and hmm, and words said twice by accident ("I I think"). The page only accepts those removals; any other word the AI drops is put back. Words like "like" or "you know" are kept, because they often carry meaning.

Does it work for languages other than English?

Yes. It punctuates text in the language it is written in, following that language's rules, and the page is available in 14 other languages. It never translates.

Does it fix grammar and spelling as well?

No, on purpose: it never changes words, so you can trust that a transcript still says exactly what was said. To correct grammar and spelling, run the punctuated text through the AI Grammar Checker.
